If you work in the helping professions such as Social Work, case work and other human services – The Orchard Rose is for you.
It’s the nature of the job to put others first, prioritise their needs, and help them to feel safe and empowered to change their lives. But it’s also common to experience secondary trauma, exhausting energy and frustration of the system….which can leave you feeling disempowered in your own career.
Maybe you entered the profession because you CARE about others. Maybe you know what it feels like to be in the shoes of your client? You feel the need to help them in any way you can.
Or perhaps you’re an advocate for people that don’t have a voice? You have ‘survivor guilt’ or just want to make a difference in the world.
It is no simple task to be a human services worker in todays world! But, what can happen as a result of all your effort and dedication, in an environment where you may not be adequately supported?
Burnout, compassion fatigue, vicarious or secondary trauma…to name a few.
Maybe you are already aware of this. But do you know what the impact of persistent stress from your job can do to your health? It can have a flow on effect to the functioning of your nervous system, hormones, your relationships and your mindset. It can lead to a lack of motivation, lack of direction and lack of confidence in your career….amongst many other things.
What can help?
Having external supervision, mentoring or coaching can really help get you back on track with your health and wellbeing, confidence and help guide you toward the perfect career path that is best for you!
You already receive supervision from your manager? That’s ok, your ‘in house’ supervision has to place a great deal of focus on your case loads, KPIs, staff training, etc. Whilst these are all important, we sometimes get lost in our ‘job title’ and lose who we are as a person, within the profession.
This is where external supervision or coaching comes in. As an external supervisor, mentor and coach, I want to know about YOU. Just you, as an individual. Your health and wellbeing needs, your confidence, your career aspirations.
Hello, I’m Bec – Founder of The Orchard Rose
I am an Accredited Mental Health Social Worker, Supervisor and Health Coach. As well as holding contracts with Universities in Australia as a Sessional Academic, (External Supervisor and Field Education Liaison) I also provide 1:1 online supervision and coaching sessions.
For some background – I spent the first 15 years of my career working in government organisations, in multidisciplinary teams within the Child Protection and Criminal legal systems.
My experience was primarily providing trauma-informed case management and support for children and adults who experienced significant personal violence, abuse and neglect. During this time, I also gained experience as a team leader and senior practitioner, providing supervision and mentoring for child protection staff.
In 2021, I was diagnosed with a rare health condition that meant I had to leave my government role to prioritise my health. I entered the world of private practice and contract-based work and have never looked back!
Whilst in private practice, I worked as a Victims Services Approved counsellor, CBT counsellor for disordered eating and bulk-bill online counsellor. I provided external supervision for Social Work professionals and held contracts with several Universities as a Supervisor and FELO for Social Work and Community Services students completing field placements.
In 2024, I transitioned out of my counselling practice before preparing to move (temporarily) to Japan with my husband for his work.
Which brings me to now – Currently living the ex-pat life, but still very much dedicated to being a Social Worker. I LOVE providing supervision and I truly believe in the positive impact it has for human services workers. I created The Orchard Rose to provide you with a safe, educative and supportive space whilst you navigate your career.
